A timeless holiday at Banana Farmhouse

Updated: Mar 23, 2021

My boyfriend is quite good in planning our weekends. He kind of freaks out when we have no plans for "upcoming" holidays or weekends. Simply because Nairobi is not very entertaining on most weekends the way we want - meaning adventurous and sporty. Therefore, most of the time we go somewhere where we can camp, hike, bike or do something outdoor. So since he always plans those weekends, I made him a surprise and planned us a full weekend which coincided to our 18th monthiversary! Sorry but not sorry - I like celebrating.

Our Saturday started with a horse riding lesson, because I really want to learn to ride properly. We decided to continue taking lessons, so I am happy!

After the riding lesson we drove to Limuru and had lunch at the Brown's Cheese Factory - which was delicious with all different types of cheese, tasty wine and more food that I was not able to eat since I was already full with cheese, bread and wine! The Brown's Cheese Factory is located in a beautiful location, it's an old British house surrounded by a huge garden. After lunch, it was difficult not to fall asleep by the chimney! Hopefully, Banana Farmhouse is very nearby so we went our final destination for the day. I picked Brown's just because it is also close to the house though. Anyway, it was a win-win situation.

We stayed the night at the Banana Farmhouse, which I was in love with since my first step. This place is marked on Google but still it is difficult to find. It is a hidden paradise. I booked us one room only and there are in total four rooms in the house but the rest was not occupied so we basically had the whole house for ourselves. That was just perfect.

There were two nice employees to assist us and prepare the breakfast the next morning, Stephen and Meli, they were lovely. Oh, and there were three beautiful dogs that makes everything a complete in that scenery. There is also a pool, but due to the weather conditions, we didn't really use it.

Since a few weeks it rains very heavily around here, so the rain was expected and it was beautiful even though it rained the whole evening and night. We still had time to enjoy the garden and the swings on the terrace. The night was calm and peaceful. The chimney was on the whole night while we were reading books, contemplating life and watching a movie.

Things to keep in mind is just that they do not serve meals other than breakfast. Though, there was banana bread with the welcome tea and it was the best banana bread I had so far.

I will leave a few photos I took and I believe those images are not enough to express the feeling of being there in reality. I wanted to leave a comment on TripAdvisor but they are not on there - cool isn't it? Here is their web site though: http://www.bananafarmhouse.com

I hope that you enjoy being there as much as I did.

Cheers!
